Vitamin Supplements
Healthy and diversified diet provides all the necessary vitamins which are required for normal functioning of organism. However, since some people do not like to eat everything, natural sources of vitamins can be replaced by variety of vitamin supplements also known as multivitamins.
The vitamin supplements which are available in a form of tablets, capsules, pastilles, powders, liquids and injectable formulas became a popular source of vitamins throughout the world. All forms of vitamin supplements (except for injectable formulas which are available only under medical supervision) are recognized as a category of food and can be bought at a store.
Since there is no difference between vitamins obtained from natural sources and synthetic vitamins neither chemical structure nor function vitamin supplements represent an important source of vitamins for people with imbalanced diet.
However, vitamin supplements are not necessary for healthy people with balanced and diversified diet because they obtain the adequate amount of vitamins from foods, fruits and vegetables. Besides that it is also to keep in mind that overdosing with vitamin supplements can have serious side effects. The most common side effects of overdosing with vitamin supplements result nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, however, some recent researches and studies showed that overdosing with some vitamins in first place with beta-carotene, vitamin A and vitamin E can even increase mortality. For that reason it is very important to be very careful and to precisely follow the instructions for use, while pregnant women should consult with their doctor before using any vitamin supplements.
